Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

A Brief History of World Chess Day

When was this event established: World Chess Day was established by the International Chess Federation in 1966, choosing the day of July 20 as it also marks the founding date of the organization – July 20, 1924, in Paris. Their aim was to celebrate the unity of this game while promoting and showing appreciation to it throughout the world. Later on, in 2019, the UN General Assembly proclaimed July 20 to be World Chess Day to catalyze even more attention and interest in the game and raise awareness of its cultural significance for humanity.

How has it developed since then: Each year, on World Chess Day, the International Chess Federation, which has 181 chess members organizations, runs chess events and competitions worldwide. For example, in 2013, the event was celebrated in 178 countries, according to the FIDE President. Moreover, in 2018, Chess.com held a 24-hour arena tournament with special guests to celebrate and honor the game. And, in 2019, the hashtag #InternationalChessDay was used in 4,000 tweets, reaching an audience of more than 18 million people

3 Interesting Facts About World Chess Day

  1. We Love Chess: Nowadays, about 70% of the adult population has played chess at some point in their lives, and over 600 million adults play chess regularly. Thankfully, chess can never get boring, as mathematically, there are more possible iterations of a game of chess than there are atoms in the known universe. It’s no wonder that chess tournaments have been going strong since the 1850s
  2. A Game of Names: After emerging in India as “chaturanga”, chess moved west toward Europe, first passing through the Persian and Arab cultural filters and maintaining its board, pieces, and most of its rules. Interestingly though, across multiple translations, all the pieces changed and morphed their names, influenced by local cultures, with the “King” – the game’s central piece – being the only one that kept its original title
  3. Moving Pieces: The longest official game of chess took place in 1989: it went on for 20 hours and included 269 moves, but it ended in a draw. Moreover, in a single game of chess, there are 400 possible moves after each move played. For example, from the starting position, there are eight different ways to Checkmate in two moves and 355 different ways to Mate in three moves. And it is even possible to checkmate your opponent in just two moves!
