Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

It’s hard to imagine a world without elephants. These iconic animals are the largest land mammals in the world, known for being highly intelligent and social. Yet, unfortunately, all elephant species are threatened with extinction due to poaching and habitat loss. So, we had to ask: What is the most important information you need to know about this year’s World Elephant Day?

Keep on reading to find out all the important information about World Elephant Day at a glance, including its big picture, why it’s important, and how you can get involved. We’ll then share its brief history, three interesting facts about it, its future dates, and how you’ll never miss any important awareness event again.

The Most Important Information About World Elephant Day at a Glance

1️⃣ The big picture: World Elephant Day is an advocacy event designed to rally supporters to stop the illegal poaching and trade of elephant ivory, as well as to prevent further habitat loss that is negatively affecting populations of these majestic animals. It is also used as a platform to share knowledge and positive solutions to improve the welfare of both wild and captive elephants.

2️⃣ Why it is important: Elephants are the world’s largest living land animals, weighing up to 7.5 tons! They are also vital ecosystem engineers, maintaining the fertility of local plant populations and creating pathways in densely forested habitats that allow passage for other animals. Yet, all our elephant species are threatened with extinction due to wildlife crime (particularly poaching), habitat loss, and climate change. For example, the total population of Asian elephants has more than halved in the last century and African elephant populations have declined by 98% since 1500.

3️⃣ How you can get involved: You can get involved in World Elephant Day by spreading awareness, fundraising, or supporting elephant charities:

  1. Fundraise for elephants: Raise awareness about the plight of elephants and promote ways to help by hosting your own community event using the educational and fundraising materials provided on the World Elephant Day website.
  2. Spread the word through social media: Use the hashtag #WorldElephantDay to spread awareness for elephants on social media to reach a wider audience.
  3. Purchase to support: Consider purchasing the “When Elephants Were Young” documentary to support the work of World Elephant Day and learn more about what you can do to save elephants

A Brief History of World Elephant Day

When was this event established: World Elephant Day was founded in 2012 by Patricia Sims and the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation of Thailand as a global awareness initiative to protect endangered elephant species.

How has it developed since then: Today, the event partners with over 100 elephant conservation organizations, as well as millions of other participants, to give voice to the issues threatening elephants and conduct campaigns to inspire public action. This powerful collaboration provides policymakers, governments, and politicians the information and opportunity to make the world a safer place for elephants and protect their habitats.

3 Interesting Facts About World Elephant Day

  1. Elephant symbolism: Elephants live in very close-knit family groups called herds. They are also known to greet each other and form strong bonds with particular family members. For this reason, elephants have come to symbolize loyalty, wisdom, and protection around the world. For example, in Indian culture, elephants are considered to be protectors of the home and attract good luck to families.
  2. African vs Asian: There are several ways you can tell the difference between an African and an Asian Elephant. For one, African elephants are generally larger, weighing up to 14,000 lbs (6,350 kg)! Whereas Asian Elephants weigh up to 12,000 lbs (5,420 kg) and have smaller, more rounded ears.
  3. The ivory trade: The ivory trade is estimated to be worth $23 billion annually, despite restrictions being put in place to prevent this harmful practice. Much of the trade is through the poaching of elephants, with poachers using different tactics to find loopholes in these laws.
