Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Keep on reading to find out all the important information about World Smile Day at a glance, including its big picture, why it’s important, and how you can get involved. We’ll then share its brief history, three interesting facts about it, its future dates, and how you’ll never miss any important awareness event again.

The Most Important Information About World Smile Day at a Glance

1️⃣ The big picture: World Smile Day is celebrated on the first Friday of October every year. The creator of the smiley face, Harvey Ball, said that the symbol knows no politics, no geography, and no religion, and that for one day, neither should we. Thus, World Smile Day was created to spread positivity and acts of kindness across the globe.

2️⃣ Why it is important: Charles Darwin found that smiling was truly universal—body language, gestures, and words can mean different things in different cultures, but smiles can be understood by all. We’ve also been found to smile in the womb! Celebrating this innate expression of joy is important for optimism and uplifting others in our lives! It can even boost our mental and physical health because smiling and laughing have been shown to release happy hormones like serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins.

3️⃣ How you can get involved: Celebrating World Smile Day couldn’t be easier; simply give strangers and your loved ones a grin. World Smile Day was founded to spread kindness, so how about doing a good deed to make someone else smile? Maybe you could do something thoughtful for someone you love, or try to make the world a better place by volunteering with a charity or doing a litter pick. If you really want to celebrate in style, maybe you could take a clown skills class to embrace your silliness and ability to make others laugh.

A Brief History of World Smile Day

When was this event established: The artist Harvey Ball designed the iconic smiley face in 1963. It went on to become an instantly recognizable logo. Ball worried that its original meaning had been lost with its commercialization, so he created World Smile Day in 1999 to highlight how important it is to be kind.

How has it developed since then: Since its founding, World Smile Day has gone on to be celebrated by people around the world. After Harvey Ball passed away in 2001, the Harvey Ball World Smile Foundation was created to honor him and sponsor World Smile Day. On Instagram alone, over 240,000 posts have been made with the hashtag, #worldsmileday.

3 Interesting Facts About World Smile Day

  1. Smiling Makes You Seem Smarter: Researchers found that smiling faces were more likely to be perceived as more intelligent than unsmiling faces.
  2. Nineteen Types of Smile: A smile can say more than the obvious! In fact, research has found that there are 19 different types of smiles, and only six were associated with happiness. Other types of grin include fake smiles, contempt smiles, and miserable smiles.
  3. Easier to Smile Than Frown: It takes 47 muscles to frown, but only a mere 13 to smile. That’s another way that smiling is good for your health!
