Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Our natural Earth is in crisis, with 1 million of the world’s plant and animal species under threat of extinction and 66% of the world’s oceans negatively impacted by human activities such as fishing. Furthermore, we are currently using the equivalent of 1.6 Earths to maintain our current way of living. This Earth Month is the perfect time to reflect on our own impact on the Earth and inspire change. So, we had to ask: What is the most important information you need to know about this year’s Earth Month?

Keep on reading to find out all the important information about Earth Month at a glance, including its big picture, why it’s important, and how you can get involved. We’ll then share its brief history, three interesting facts about it, its future dates, and how you can be sure to never miss any important awareness event again.

The Most Important Information About Earth Month at a Glance

1️⃣ The big picture: Earth Month was started in 2013 as an expansion of the hugely successful Earth Day which was initially set up in 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson and Denis Hayes to inspire Americans to take action to protect our natural planet. The very first Earth Day inspired 20 million Americans to take to the streets to demonstrate against the impacts of 150 years of industrial development. Today, Earth Month is a global campaign for people to come together to fight climate change, with each year focusing on a particular theme. Past themes have included “Climate action”, “Invest in our planet”, and “Planet vs plastics”.

2️⃣ Why is this important: Our natural planet is in crisis. As our climate warms, the polar ice caps are melting at an alarming rate, causing endemic species to flee their natural habitats. Moreover, plants, flowers, and trees are changing their natural cycles in response to warmer weather, causing species and habitat decline around the world. Today, 16,900 species are listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List – more than double the number of 2007. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the global temperature rise and the excessive burning of fossil fuels to be one of the greatest threats to global health

3️⃣ How can you get involved: There are many ways you can get involved in Earth Month. For example, you can hold a sustainable awareness event or learn how to calculate your own emissions from electrical use and make a change to your daily habits. In addition, you can consider carbon offset initiatives or support your local sustainable businesses.

A Brief History of Earth Month

When was this event established: Earth Month was started in 2013 to expand the celebration of Earth Day (April 22) which began in the US, to celebrate the progress made towards protecting our environment.

How has it developed since then: Today, events and activities are held in 190 countries around the world to raise awareness of the threats facing our planet and encourage individuals to make personal changes in their lives to address the climate crisis and the environmental challenges that still remain.

3 Interesting Facts About Earth Month

  1. Positive Legislative Change: Since the very first Earth Day and the establishment of Earth Month a few decades later, this awareness event has led to numerous legislative wins for the planet. For example, just a few months after the first Earth Day, the Environmental Protection Agency was established. In later years, campaigning during Earth Month has led to the implementation of two significant conventions; A Framework Convention on Climate Change and A Framework Convention on Biological Diversity
  2. Raising Global Awareness: The first truly global Earth Day campaign in 1990 garnered support from 140 countries and the participation of 200 million people. In 2023, 741 organizations worldwide joined the Climate Literacy Petition, representing millions of members, and the campaign itself created 12.52 billion impressions around the globe.
  3. Inspiring Important Conversations: Thanks to the Earth Month campaign, more people are aware of important environmental topics such as greenwashing, with online activism to call out greenwashing continuing to rise annually. In particular, Instagram and TikTok have seen a significant rise in discussions surrounding climate change, fossil fuel use, and veganism.
