Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: A court in Ecuador ordered the government to grant land title in the Amazon to the Siekopai Nation, creating a conflict with the Kichwa de Zancudo Cocha community who already has claimed rights to the same area, highlighting the need for proper Indigenous consultation in land agreements.
📈 One key stat: The dispute involves 42,360 hectares of Amazon rainforest within the Cuyabeno Reserve, potentially impacting conservation agreements across Ecuador’s protected areas.
💬 One key quote: “We feel like they violated our constitutional rights, and that there is a great injustice,” says Enrique Moya Tangoy, leader of the Zancudo Cocha community.

1️⃣ The big picture: Ecuador faces a serious Indigenous land dispute after a 2023 court ruling granted the Siekopai Nation rights to 42,360 hectares in the Amazon’s Cuyabeno Reserve. This same land was previously part of a 2008 agreement with the Kichwa de Zancudo Cocha community, creating direct conflict between the two groups. The Kichwa community has responded with armed resistance to maintain their claim, while the Siekopai view this as reclaiming their ancestral territory. Legal experts warn this ruling could trigger similar conflicts across Ecuador’s Amazon, as the government failed to properly consult all Indigenous groups with ancestral claims before establishing land agreements.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: The court ruling recognizes the ancestral connection between Indigenous peoples and their traditional lands, potentially creating a pathway for other marginalized groups to reclaim their territories. This acknowledgment reinforces the importance of Indigenous peoples’ historical memory and spiritual connections to the forest ecosystems they’ve managed for generations. By addressing historical injustices, the case spotlights the need for more comprehensive consultation processes in land rights agreements. The situation has also prompted calls for peaceful dialogue between Indigenous communities, highlighting opportunities to develop better frameworks for resolving territorial disputes while maintaining conservation priorities.

3️⃣ What’s next: The environment ministry must decide how to implement the court order while addressing the existing land agreement with the Kichwa community. Indigenous leaders are advocating for peaceful mediation to prevent further escalation of violence between communities. Both sides will need to develop a shared framework that respects ancestral claims while preventing similar conflicts throughout Ecuador’s Amazon region.
