Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

We’ll then share its brief history, three interesting facts about it, its future dates, and how you’ll never miss any important awareness event again.

The Most Important Information About Father’s Day at a Glance

1️⃣ The big picture: Father’s Day is a holiday honoring one’s father and the influence of fathers in society, as well as the importance of fatherhood and paternal bonds. It is complementary to other celebrations dedicated to family members, such as Mother’s Day, Sisters’ Day, Brothers’ Day, and Grandparents’ Day. This holiday’s date varies by country and highlights local traditions and festivities esteeming local paternal values, stemming from specific religions and cultural practices. In the US, this event is usually observed by offering greeting cards and other gifts or spending quality time with one’s father on a day out.

2️⃣ Why it is important: When their father is present and involved in their lives, children are 40% more likely to get good grades and 50% more likely to attend college or find employment after high school. Actually, 82% of studies on father-child relationships published since 1980 found crucial associations between positive father involvement and child well-being. Moreover, an analysis of over 100 studies found that having a loving father was just as important for a child’s happiness and social and academic success as having a loving mother. Dads are also particularly skilled at fostering independence and responsibility in their children.

3️⃣ How you can celebrate: You can commemorate Father’s Day by spending quality time with your dad, buying a gift he will love, or raising awareness of this event to ensure more dads get the attention they deserve:

  1. Enjoy a lovely moment: Sometimes, the greatest gift we can offer is our company. You can find simple, yet pleasurable ways to spend quality time with your father or paternal figure by having a barbeque, going on a hike, or simply enjoying a nice conversation on your porch. He will definitely appreciate this!
  2. Buy a thoughtful gift: If you know something your dad or paternal figure has wanted for some time, why not use this opportunity to buy it? You can also give him a greeting card and write down all the things that make him special. In addition, you can buy him a more general present that he’ll love, like a tech gadget, a tie, or a self-care product.
  3. Raise awareness of this Day: You can spread awareness of this event online or directly to your friends and colleagues to ensure that dads everywhere enjoy a moment of rightful appreciation.

A Brief History of Father’s Day

When was this event established: In the US, Father’s Day was created in 1909 by Sonora Smart Dodd. She and her five brothers had been raised only by their father, Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, after their mother died in childbirth. She had the idea of a day dedicated to fathers as she was listening to a sermon on Mother’s Day, which at the time was becoming established as a holiday. She wanted her father – and fathers nationwide – to have a special day of their own. Sonora and local religious leaders campaigned for the first Father’s Day, which was held on June 19, 1910, on her father’s birth month. Her goal for the date was to be on June 5, her father’s birthday, but preparations delayed the event

How has it developed since then: Today, Father’s Day is celebrated in over 115 countries worldwide, each adding its own culture and traditions into this observance. It also honors grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures who have assumed parenting roles. In the US, President Calvin Coolidge encouraged the event in 1924, and, in 1966, President Lyndon Johnson issued a proclamation that recognized the day. However, it was only in 1972 that it became an official holiday when President Richard Nixon signed legislation designating the third Sunday of June as Father’s Day.

3 Interesting Facts About Father’s Day

  1. Refused proposals: On July 5, 1908, a small church in West Virginia held the first public event honoring fathers, after a local mining explosion killed 250 fathers and left around a thousand children fatherless. Grace Golden Clayton wanted to make this a nationwide event, but was refused. Moreover, in 1911, Jane Addams proposed a citywide Father’s Day in Chicago, but she was also turned down.
  2. Active involvement: American dads are now much more involved in childcare than during the past decades. In 2016, fathers spent around 8 hours a week on childcare, tripling the number from 1965. Dads nowadays also make up 17% of stay-at-home parents, while in the 90s it was only 3%. Moreover, dads see parenting as central to their identity, but struggle with work-family balance and believe they still spend too little time with their kids
  3. Customs and commerce: Although it was originally a religious holiday, Father’s Day has been commercialized by the sending of greeting cards and the giving of gifts. Other customs involve wearing a red rose to indicate that one’s father is living or a white rose to indicate that he is deceased. The most common gifts are electronic gadgets, restaurant meals, and clothing items such as ties. The event’s rise in market value was criticized, as people feared that the celebration would lose its deeper social and cultural meanings
