Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

The global insect population is declining at an average of 2% every year. Yet, they are not the main focus of conservation efforts, with just 0.5% of funding going toward saving these vital creatures. Insects are the backbone of practically every ecosystem, contributing to soil health, the food chain, pollination, and even climate regulation. So, we had to ask: What is the most important information you need to know about this year’s Insect Week?

👉 Official Name: Insect Week
💚 Cause: Celebrate all insects and educate the public on the role they play in the world’s ecosystems.
📅 Next Date: June 23-29, 2025
🌐 Official Website: https://www.insectweek.org/
🐦 Hashtag: #InsectWeek

Keep on reading to find out all the important information about Insect Week at a glance, including its big picture, why it’s important, and how you can get involved. We’ll then share its brief history, three interesting facts about it, its future dates, and how you’ll never miss any important awareness event again.

The Most Important Information About Insect Week at a Glance

1️⃣ The big picture: Insect Week is a celebration of all insects, from ants to dragonflies and beetles, and the important role they play in ecosystems around the world. Wherever you live, it’s a great opportunity to take part in insect science, better understand insect species, and learn from experts.

2️⃣ Why is this important: The world has already lost 5-10% of all its insects within the last 150 years, equating to 250,000-500,000 species. In terms of diversity, insects represent more than two-thirds of the 1.5 million documented animal species. Yet, just 0.5% of all funds allocated to conservation go toward saving endangered insect species. If insect declines are not halted soon, it could cause terrestrial and freshwater systems to collapse, with profound implications for humans and the world as a whole.

3️⃣ How can you get involved: There are plenty of ways you can get involved in Insect Week, from setting up a fundraising event to volunteering for a local conservation group. Alternatively, the Royal Entomological Society holds numerous educational events and competitions in collaboration with partner organizations during Insect Week for you to get involved in.

Below are our favorite charities that are especially relevant for Insect Week:

A Brief History of Insect Week

When was this event established: Insect Week was initially set up in 2010 by the Royal Entomological Society to raise awareness of the plights affecting insect species around the world. It came at a time when British scientists were becoming increasingly worried that insect populations were declining due to climate change and unsustainable agricultural practices.

How has it developed since then: Today, Insect Week is a time to raise awareness of the importance of insects as pollinators and predators in conservation, food production, medicine, and ecology. It is marked with multiple events and competitions organized by the Royal Entomological Society, alongside other like-minded organizations, designed to help people of all ages better understand insects and to inspire the next generation of entomologists.

3 Interesting Facts About Insect Week

  1. Dispelling fears and misconceptions: Many people, especially those in developed countries, exhibit an irrational phobia of insects (called entomophobia). Teaching children about insects from a young age can help dispel these fears and improve future conservation efforts.
  2. Environmental responsibility: Evidence shows that early exposure to insects instills values of empathy and environmental responsibility in children. In this way, children understand that insects pollinate plants, serve as food for other animals, and break down waste into fertile soil.
  3. Natural antifreeze: Many insects around the world survive the winter months by replacing their body water with a chemical called glycerol, which acts as a natural antifreeze against cold temperatures!
