Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: Two orphaned orangutans, Popi and Devi, have reached the final stage of rehabilitation on a pre-release island in Borneo, bringing them closer to returning to the wild and contributing to their critically endangered species’ survival.
📈 One key stat: Rehabilitation of young orangutans like Popi and Devi can take up to five years or more before they’re ready to be released, highlighting the intensive care required to save each critically endangered animal.
💬 One key quote: “Returning an orangutan to the wild takes years of patient, expert care to undo extensive trauma experienced as an infant, and to teach them the skills their mothers would have passed on,” said Leif Cocks, Founder of The Orangutan Project.

1️⃣ The big picture: All three species of orangutans are now classified as critically endangered, facing extreme extinction risk due to deforestation, illegal logging, and the pet trade. Each year, hundreds are killed, injured or orphaned, with infants unable to survive alone without years of maternal guidance. The recent milestone of moving orangutans Popi and Devi to a pre-release island in Borneo represents a critical step in their journey back to the wild. Both were rescued as traumatized infants after losing their mothers to the illegal wildlife trade, requiring years of rehabilitation. This intensive process mimics the natural 8-11 years orangutans typically spend learning survival skills from their mothers in the wild.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: Each successfully rehabilitated orangutan makes a significant contribution to the survival of these critically endangered species. The four-phase rehabilitation process developed by conservationists provides orphaned orangutans with essential survival skills they would naturally learn from their mothers. Through recovery, jungle school, pre-release monitoring, and eventually forest freedom, traumatized orangutans can transform into confident, independent animals capable of thriving in their natural habitat. Organizations like The Orangutan Project are creating a sustainable model for orangutan conservation that addresses both immediate rescue needs and long-term species survival. Thanks to these rehabilitation efforts, orangutans like Popi and Devi can potentially live naturally into their sixties, forming new wild communities in protected forest habitats.

3️⃣ What’s next: Popi and Devi will be closely monitored on their pre-release island for up to a year to ensure they can survive independently. After perfecting their forest skills, they’ll move to the final phase of rehabilitation: release into protected forest habitat. Their success will help refine rehabilitation techniques for future rescued orangutans while contributing to wild population recovery.
