Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

31% of all shark species are threatened with extinction and given the rate at which some species are declining, scientists expect this percentage to rise significantly in the next few years. Many people have an irrational fear of sharks, but the truth is that they are some of the oldest and most majestic creatures on the planet, and play a significant role in supporting marine ecosystems. So, we had to ask: What is the most important information you need to know about this year’s Shark Week?

We’ll then share its brief history, three interesting facts about it, its future dates, and how you’ll never miss any important awareness event again.

The Most Important Information About Shark Week at a Glance

1️⃣ The big picture: Shark Week is an annual, shark-themed TV programming block on the Discovery Channel, designed to make people view sharks in a more positive light, dispel the myths that surround them, and promote conservation efforts that work to save endangered shark species around the world.

2️⃣ Why is this important: Sharks have been on Earth for over 400 million years, meaning that they were already around 200 million years before the dinosaurs! Yet, despite surviving 6 mass extinctions to date, shark species around the world are increasingly under threat from global warming, unsustainable fishing practices, and pollution, to name just a few. For example, 25% of the 494 shark and ray species that inhabit coastal continental shelves, including all reef sharks, are known to be endangered. But, the number is likely to be even higher as the conservation status of 35% is still unknown.

3️⃣ How can you get involved: You can get involved in Shark Week by organizing a fundraising event in your local area or by signing the Big Shark Pledge to better protect sharks from excessive fishing practices. You can also get involved by spreading awareness through your social media pages or simply educating yourself and your family on sharks.

A Brief History of Shark Week

When was this event established: Shark Week was originally founded in 1988 on the Discovery Channel, with the first program to air being Caged in Fear. The initial aim of Shark Week was to boost conservation efforts for endangered shark species and change people’s opinions about these majestic, powerful creatures. The initial series of 10 programs proved to be so popular that Discovery decided to continue them.

How has it developed since then: Today, Shark Week remains popular around the world. In fact, since 2010, it has become the longest-running cable television programming event in history, now broadcast in more than 72 countries

3 Interesting Facts About Shark Week

  1. Celebrity Involvement: Over the years, Shark Week programs have been hosted by a number of notable celebrities, such as zoologist Nigel Marvin, as well as TV hosts Adam Savage and Mike Rowe.
  2. Size Variation: Shark species vary significantly in size. The smallest dwarf lantern shark is only the size of a human hand, whereas the largest shark species, the whale shark, can reach up to 55 feet (17 meters) and weigh over 30 tons!
  3. Cold Blooded Killers?: Most shark species are cold-blooded, meaning that their body temperature is determined by the temperature of the surrounding waters. However, great white sharks are partially warm-blooded, which allows them to move faster when hunting prey in any temperature range.
