Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Over 80% of stalking victims know their stalker, and it is often intertwined with domestic violence and other forms of abuse. A Brief History of Stalking Awareness Month

When was this event established: The National Center for Victims of Crime launched National Stalking Awareness Month in 2004 to raise public understanding of stalking. It originated from the efforts of the Stalking Resource Center (now known as the Stalking Prevention, Awareness and Resource Center), funded by the Office on Violence Against Women, to improve multidisciplinary responses to the crime. National Stalking Awareness Month was inspired by Debbie Riddle, whose sister Peggy Klinke was murdered by her stalker in 2003; Riddle sought to turn her family’s tragedy into a movement to enhance law enforcement’s response and prevent future stalking-related deaths.

How has it developed since then: Since its launch, National Stalking Awareness Month has sparked nationwide dialogues about stalking, resulting in significant advancements in stalking laws and protections. For instance, many states have strengthened legal definitions of stalking and streamlined processes for obtaining protection orders. Furthermore, increased funding and resources have been allocated to support victims, providing essential tools for those affected to access help and raise awareness about their rights. And, the first-ever Stalking Awareness Day of Action was held on January 18, 2024, to encourage individuals to wear their most sparkly clothes and accessories to raise awareness for the cause, using the hashtag #SparkleAgainstStalking.

3 Interesting Facts About Stalking Awareness Month

  1. Anti-stalking Laws are Relatively New: Stalking laws in the US have undergone considerable evolution over the last few decades, beginning with California’s enactment of the first anti-stalking laws in 1990, which were prompted by the tragic murder of actress Rebecca Schaeffer at the hands of a stalker. Since that time, every state has implemented its own stalking statutes.
  2. Stalking in the Media: Media portrayals of stalking often depict it as romantic or obsessive rather than the serious crime it is. This glamorization can lead to dangerous assumptions, with many individuals underestimating the severity of stalking or mistakenly viewing it as harmless infatuation, highlighting the need for accurate representations in media to foster better understanding and support for victims.
  3. Victim Impact: Stalking has a significant impact on victims, with stalked individuals experiencing higher rates of emotional distress, including anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Victims may also face disruptions in their daily lives. For example, 1 in 8 stalking victims lose time at work due to their victimization, and 1 in 7 relocate to elude their stalker. Furthermore, approximately 46% of victims live in fear of not knowing what will happen next, and 29% fear that stalking will never stop, illustrating the pervasive dread and anxiety that stalking instills in their lives.
