Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

📰 The quick summary: In Bexar County, Texas, 500 retired electric vehicle batteries are being repurposed to provide 24 megawatt hours of energy storage for the electric grid, extending their useful life by eight years while helping stabilize power supplies.
📈 One key stat: B2U Storage Solutions plans to deploy 100 megawatt hours of grid storage across Texas within the next year, enough energy to power 3,330 homes for a day.
💬 One key quote: “We’re really helping to pioneer and demonstrate to the automotive industry that repurposing makes a lot of sense for a pretty healthy number of batteries before they’re truly ready for end of life and recycling,” said Freeman Hall, co-founder and CEO.

1️⃣ The big picture: A California company called B2U Storage Solutions is giving retired electric vehicle batteries new life by repurposing them for grid energy storage in Texas. These 500 batteries, which have reached the end of their automotive usefulness but still retain 70-80% of their capacity, will be housed in 21st shipping container-sized cabinets near San Antonio. The system will charge when renewable energy is abundant and power is cheap, then discharge when demand increases. This innovative approach creates a second life for batteries containing valuable minerals like lithium, cobalt, and nickel, delaying the need for recycling by approximately eight years.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: This technology creates an economic second life for EV batteries that would otherwise need recycling prematurely. The repurposed batteries provide grid stabilization at lower cost than new battery installations while helping Texas manage its growing renewable energy resources. The second-life battery market is forecasted to grow into a $4.2 billion industry by 2035 as millions more EVs reach battery replacement age. Batteries have already made significant contributions to Texas grid reliability, with nearly 4,000 megawatts of new battery capacity added to prevent summer blackouts. This approach also reduces waste and maximizes the use of critical minerals before they need recycling.

3️⃣ What’s next: B2U will complete the San Antonio facility later this year, followed by three additional grid storage projects in Texas. The company will continue collecting real-time data to monitor temperature and voltage levels of the battery packs to ensure optimal performance. As technology advances, the process of repurposing EV batteries is expected to become faster and more cost-effective.
