Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Happy Good Friday 👋

Here are the impactful insights that I have for you today:

  • How a Swiss hydrogen train set a world record 🚄
  • The plant-based innovation that makes biodegradable microplastics possible ♻
  • How coffee grounds can help combat agricultural contamination ☕
  • And more… 💚

Electricity plays a key role when it comes to making our transportation more sustainable

But did you know that hydrogen-powered vehicles could (also) be the future?

They are clean, can be refueled fast, and have an ever-extending range.

🚄 How a Swiss Hydrogen Train Set a World Record

1️⃣ The big picture: A hydrogen-powered train developed by the Swiss railroad company Stadler has made history by setting a new world record, as recognized by the Guinness World Records. This ‘Flirt’ passenger train achieved an unprecedented feat by covering 1,741 miles (2,803 kilometers) on a single tank of hydrogen fuel, without the need for refueling or recharging. Its journey, completed over approximately 46 hours, took place at a test center in Colorado, USA, showcasing the potential of hydrogen as a clean and efficient energy source for rail transport.

Stadler’s FLIRT H2 achieves Guinness World Records title

2️⃣ Why is this good news: This achievement underscores the viability of hydrogen fuel as a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels in the transportation sector. By demonstrating that a hydrogen-powered train can travel such a long distance without stopping for fuel, Stadler highlights the potential for reducing carbon emissions and dependency on non-renewable energy sources in public transport. The success of this hydrogen train in setting a new world record not only advances the technology behind hydrogen fuel cells but also propels the rail industry toward a greener future.

3️⃣ What’s next: The record-breaking performance of this hydrogen train opens up new possibilities for the adoption of hydrogen-powered vehicles in public transportation networks around the world. The next steps involve further testing, optimization, and scaling of this technology to make hydrogen trains a common sight on tracks globally. As countries and companies continue to seek sustainable transport solutions, the success of this hydrogen train could serve as a promising example of what can be achieved with innovation and commitment to environmental sustainability.

📢 Three More Good News

How researchers made biodegradable microplastics possible:

  • Researchers from the University of California San Diego have created plant-based polymers that rapidly (within 7 months) break down, degrade, and disappear—even in water.
  • This is a significant improvement compared to standard microplastics that can linger in bodies of water and take 100s to 1,000s of years to break down.
  • The science company behind this, Algenesis, is now collaborating with large corporations to integrate their eco-friendly polymers with different products, such as phone cases.

☀️ The French town’s cemetery that embraces solar power:

  • One town in France has covered their cemetery with a canopy of solar panels to provide cheap community solar power to their residents.
  • Aside from generating clean energy, this solar project promotes community engagement and increases the town’s self-sufficiency. For just €5, residents can actively participate and receive a share of solar power.
  • The solar cemetery aims to provide the town residents with cheap and renewable energy by 2025.

How coffee grounds can help combat agricultural contamination:

  • Recent studies indicate it’s possible to repurpose used coffee grounds to absorb herbicides like bentazone and combat agricultural pollution.
  • Bentazone is a common herbicide that is often used in agriculture, but can be harmful to humans and animals, and can negatively impact the quality of drinking water. By activating coffee grounds with zinc chloride, scientists were able to use the coffee grounds to effectively absorb bentazone.
  • While more research is needed, this solution could save tonnes of coffee grounds from going to landfills, reduce agricultural contamination, and lead to a more circular economy.
