Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Happy Wednesday 👋

Here are the impactful insights that I have for you today:

  • How to make hygiene more equitable and accessible 🧼
  • How Pakistan defies global trends and expands mangrove ecosystems 🌳
  • The court rulings in US states that protect groundwater 🪨💧

What comes to your mind when you think about basic needs?

Depending on what types of your needs are already met, basic might mean something completely different for you than for somebody else…

Let’s have a quick look at Maslow’s pyramid for a visual overview!

And covering the basic needs at the very bottom of this pyramid is where we can make the biggest difference…

🧼 How to Make Hygiene More Equitable and Accessible

Did you know that providing basic hygiene needs is one of the best ways to improve the health and well-being of those who are struggling?

🎥 We’ve just launched a new podcast episode with Meghan Freebeck from Simply the Basics. Meghan is an experienced nonprofit leader with a diverse background spanning from Shakespearean studies to front-line social service work. Initially managing a homeless shelter in Chicago, Meghan later moved to San Francisco to work with the San Francisco Suicide Prevention and the Project Homeless Connect SF. Her unique journey from literature to addressing urgent social needs provided her with a profound understanding of the basic human requirements for dignity and health.

💚 Simply the Basics provide essential hygiene products to those unable to afford them and are recognized as the first large-scale Hygiene Bank in the nation. Their impact goal is to improve and sustain the overall health and well-being of the low-income community, people at risk of losing their homes, and people experiencing homelessness.

How to Make Hygiene More Equitable and Accessible: Meghan Freebeck from Simply the Basics (#18)

Here are three key points that you’ll learn from this episode:

📢 More Good News…

♻️ How Aldi debuts tracking system for flexible plastic recycling:

  • The grocery store chain Aldi has begun using Eco2Veritas, an AI-powered technology, to track the journey of flexible plastic packaging through the UK’s recycling system.
  • This way, Aldi can certify the amount of plastic collected at their stores and indicate how much has been reprocessed into various end products.
  • This technology has raised awareness amongst the retail sector to participate in sustainable practices and enhance the transparency of the recycling process.

🌳 How Pakistan defies global trends and expands mangrove ecosystems:

  • Worldwide, mangrove forests have been on a steady decline for decades; however, Pakistani mangrove forests have expanded nearly threefold between 1986 and 2020.
  • Many different projects have helped expand Pakistan’s mangroves by over 230,000 acres.
  • Pakistan hopes that increasing the mangroves can bolster the coastline from climate change-induced events, increase fish stocks, sequester carbon, and provide wildlife habitat.

🪨💧 The court rulings in US states that protect groundwater:

  • Groundwater supplies 90% of the nation’s drinking-water systems, yet it has been steadily decreasing over the years as a result of over pumping.
  • In recent court rulings, Idaho, Nevada, and Montana have pushed states to enforce stricter groundwater rules to prevent over pumping. California has gone farther and considered penalizing local officials from draining their aquifers.
  • Given that groundwater can take centuries or millennia to replenish, if it does at all, conserving the resource now is crucial.
