Hey fellow impactful ninja ?

You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.

  • Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.

  • But some of these links are so-called "affiliate links" to products that we recommend.

Why do we add these product links?

First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.

And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

What do these affiliate links mean for you?
  1. First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission - but at no additional costs to you.

  3. And when you buy something through a link that is not an affiliate link, we won’t receive any commission but we’ll still be happy to have helped you.

What do these affiliate links mean for us?
  1. When we find products that we believe add value to you and the seller has an affiliate program, we sign up for it.

  2. When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission (at no extra costs to you).

  3. And at this point in time, all money is reinvested in sharing the most helpful content with you. This includes all operating costs for running this site and the content creation itself.

What does this mean for me personally?

You may have noticed by the way Impactful Ninja is operated that money is not the driving factor behind it. It is a passion project of mine and I love to share helpful information with you to make a positive impact on the world and society. However, it's a project in that I invest a lot of time and also quite some money.

Eventually, my dream is to one day turn this passion project into my full-time job and provide even more helpful information. But that's still a long time to go.

Stay impactful,

Happy Tuesday 👋

Here are the impactful insights that I have for you today:

  • A new solar technology that could revolutionize renewable energy 💥
  • AI robots that improve the efficiency of recycling 🦾
  • Celebrate National Cat Day 🐱
  • And more… 💚

Did you know that solar cells often can’t operate for too long or in places that are too hot?

To be honest, I didn’t know that either. And especially the temperature part is a pity when thinking about all the sun rays that could be harvested at that time…

Luckily, that’s about to change. Thanks to groundbreaking research that might just revolutionize solar energy!

💥 How Adapting Perovskite Solar Cells Can Boost Renewable Energy Development

1️⃣ The big picture: Researchers at the City University of Hong Kong have developed a way to commercialize perovskite solar cells. This breakthrough has wide implications for the renewable energy industry. Perovskite solar cells are known for their promising power conversion efficiency. However, they don’t perform well when exposed to high temperatures. Now, researchers have engineered a unique type of monolayer that is anchored onto a nickel oxide surface. This improves the thermostability of the cells by 25%, even in temperatures above 149°F.

2️⃣ Why is this good news: This research has the potential to transform the solar energy landscape. Perovskite solar cells have always shown promise due to their high power conversion efficiency—however, their performance would degrade at high temperatures. This new technology ensures that these cells can now retain over 90% of their efficiency even after operating under high temperatures (above 149°F) for over 1,000 hours. This breakthrough means that these solar cells can be more widely adopted, even in environments with high temperatures.

3️⃣ What’s next: As these cells become more commercially viable, they could play a significant role in reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and contribute substantially to combating the global climate crisis. By addressing the thermal instability issue, the utilization of perovskite solar cells could expand to regions and climates previously considered unsuitable.

📢 More Good News…

🌞 Solar power is fast becoming our main source of energy around the world:

  • A new study, led by the University of Exeter and University College London, has found that solar power is likely to become the dominant power source before 2025. This is without the support of additional climate policies.
  • However, the researchers also advised that governments should focus on four key areas to overcome potential barriers; grid resilience, finance availability for new solar projects, consistent supply chains of raw materials, and political backing.

🐻‍❄️ New technology to locate polar bear dens can boost conservation efforts:

  • Researchers at Simon Fraser University and Brigham Young University have collaborated with Polar Bears International to improve detection tools so they can better locate polar bear dens hidden under the snow.
  • This new radar technology (called ARTEMIS) can improve conservation efforts for vulnerable polar bear mothers and cubs: It works well in all weather conditions—unlike current aerial technologies—and initial tests have resulted in a 20% increase in den detection across the Arctic.

🦾 AI robots can increase the efficiency of recycling:

  • EverestLabs has developed prototype AI robot arms to increase the speed and accuracy of waste recycling in recycling centers, manufacturing plants, and retail stores.
  • The technology, called RecycleOS, is designed to be more efficient than manual sorting methods. It works by using 3D depth-sensing cameras to identify recyclable materials and sort them into different bins.
  • The company has already started collaborating with Coca-Cola, Walmart, and Procter & Gamble to deploy their AI robots into manufacturing plants.

🐱 Event of the Week: National Cat Day

👉 Did you know that this Sunday is National Cat Day? This event was founded in 2005 to raise awareness of the number of cats languishing in US animal shelters and to promote the unique needs of these animals.

1️⃣ The big picture: National Cat Day was first set up by animal welfare advocate Colleen Paige to draw attention to the plights faced by domestic cats, especially those that don’t have loving homes. Shortly after its inception, the event was adopted by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals as a national celebration of our feline companions. Today, National Cat Day is marked across the US with educational and adoption awareness events.

2️⃣ Why is this important: In the US, 3.2 million cats enter animal shelters every year. Even more worrying, about 530,000 cats are euthanized annually in these establishments. Stray and feral cats are also a big problem around the world, with 50-70 million in the US alone. Cats are often misunderstood because they are not naturally social animals. This can cause them to suffer unnecessarily.

3️⃣ How can you get involved: If you already own a cat, National Cat Day is the perfect time to give your feline companion some extra love and attention. You can also consider raising awareness in your own community or through your social media platforms of the unique needs and wonderful traits of cats. During this time, many animal shelters hold events to encourage people to consider adopting a cat in need. So, if you don’t already own a cat, this could be a great time to consider adding one to your family.

Additionally, you can check out the organizations below that work to ensure cats are respected and find their forever-loving homes:
